The Vineyards of the Pays Messin

The Vineyards of the Pays Messin

The winegrowing tradition of the Pays Messin dates back to Roman times before declining at the end of the 19th century due to phylloxera, wars, and competition from other wine regions. In the 1970s and 1980s, passionate winegrowers revived these vineyards, which were awarded the Moselle AOC in 2010.
Inaugurated in 2013, the Moselle Wine Route crosses the Pays Messin from Fey to Marange-Silvange, revealing typical villages and winegrowers' houses. By following the Voie Bleue, you can admire the hillsides of Ancy-Dornot and the remains of the Ars-sur-Moselle aqueduct. A stop in Scy-Chazelles allows you to visit the Maison de Robert Schuman.
The sun-kissed vineyards mainly produce white wines, with many estates offering friendly visits and tastings. For an immersive experience, head to the Molozay Vineyards-Château de Vaux in Scy-Chazelles to discover its vaulted cellars and elegant Art Deco wine cellar. You can also stay at the Domaine Les Béliers in Ancy-Dornot for a unique night in the heart of the vineyards.

South from Metz, La Voie Bleue alternates between the Moselle and a series of lakes before reaching Jouy-aux-Arches and its Roman aqueduct. Take in the Rochers de la Fraze boulders, as well as the vine-covered slopes at Ancy-Dornot. Arnaville marks your arrival in the département (or French county) of Meurthe-et-Moselle. From Pagny-sur-Moselle, the route runs peacefully parallel to the Canal Latéral à la Moselle, up to Pont-à-Mousson. This town boasts fine architectural treasures, such as its triangular square, Place Duroc, and the magnificent Prémontrés Abbey.
